We have recently updated a large-scale manufacturing scheduling system for metal rolling and finishing. The customers have many large and complex machines with complex sequencing rules and constraints. There is also a wide range of process times, from 2 or 3 minutes per process to more than 48 hours, which makes the schedule very complex to manage. The scheduler takes account of many complex issues, including availability of machines and crews, batching of similar materials, roll changes, and so on.
