Change is now almost continuous. No business is able to keep its processes and systems unchanged for long without falling behind or becoming outdated. Every business and organisation needs to have a vision of its future; this should also give a vision of the structure and function of the systems and processes that should be needed in five or ten years time. Managing change is the process of mapping out a plan of how to achieve the vision of the future development. This may require significant changes to the systems and processes in the organisation and how they operate; and those changes may take years to implement. Further, any new systems and processes must operate (and cooperate with nearby and related systems and processes) such that the whole business is still viable at each and every stage of those changes, and preferably show improvement at each stage too.
