One customer has a sizeable force of field engineers, and was looking to find ways of improving their utilisation. We carried out a small study and proof of concept for them using their own real data that showed how an optimising engineer routing and scheduling system could save them 15-20% of their field service costs. This was used as a basis for building a business case for a full- scale implementation of a system from a third party. Read more about it here.
Another customer is an independent software vendor of software for field service engineer scheduling and routing. They faced a need to develop the next version of their product, with improved functionality and performance compared to their previous software. We helped them explore a wide range of possible approaches, from extending their own in-house scheduling and routing engine to a full-scale re-implementation of a completely new scheduling and routing engine. We also helped them with a variety of design and implementation issues, including the design of custom search algorithms and heuristics that dramatically improved the overall performance of the scheduling and routing engine on real-world problems.
